How are you? I hope you’re healthy and enjoying the sun.
Now all cello lessons will be given online the workshop Irish music with Ilse de Ziah will also take place online! Because of this there were three times as many registrations, great!
There is still room for the advanced cellists on 11 April in the afternoon and on 18 April in the morning for the beginning cellists. Are you participating? Mail me at info@celloverkoop.nl.
Online group lesson thumb position? Do!
I would like to invite you to participate in a online group lesson thumb position on Saturday the 2nd of May. The thumb position is going to be encountered by all of us and also brings a lot of ease. Difficult to imagine perhaps, because it takes some getting used to and searching with weight and position of your fingers.
The theme becomes “thumb position” because online, when you place the camera opposite you on the lectern, it shows your hand very well and you can easily correct yourself. Then click on the option in your screen that you see yourself big in the screen and not me, and you have a good picture of your own hand and fingers! Top!
These online cello lessons take 2 x 40 minutes, from 2:00pm to 2:40pm, then you will have time to practice and we will work again from 3:15pm to 3:55pm. If you still need personal help afterwards, we can meet up online again afterwards and fix it.
You’ve never tried the thumb position but can easily change position up to the fourth position? Then you can still sign up; I’ll make a Zoom appointment with you in advance and prepare you for the thumb position workshop.
Participants don’t have to prepare anything. I’ll mail you sheet music in advance for guidance but we work without sheet music in front of us. I’m going to work on your posture, transpose your weight, model your hand, pay attention to ironing with more speed and the right point of contact, and prepare whole and half distances between your fingers.
I can imagine that as a less advanced cellist, you’d like to see how this works. You can also sign up as a passive cellist.
We work 2 May with a scale of D major, and d minor, and a broken three sound. Really ‘easy’ basic material so that you can pay attention to posture and technique. I select material from books by Rick Mooney and A. Piatti and e-mail it to you afterwards for documentation.

In order to participate, I would like to ask you to do the following:
Enter via the button below or via info@celloverkoop.nl with your name and phone number.
Within 1 working day you will hear if there is still room.
If you have specified:
- I’ll mail you a Zoom invitation which will automatically start the program on your tablet or laptop.
- Search for the cello lesson starts as close as possible to your wifi signal; preferably one meter away from it than two meters. The difference in quality is obvious
- Prevent backlight; avoid having a window behind you because I won’t see your strings.
- Get a lectern on which your tablet stands securely, in a horizontal position, right in front of you, not at an angle to your.
- Test your own image beforehand; can you clearly see your hand on four strings when your thumb is on the flageolet where the thumb position is easiest; namely the high D on the D string and the high A on the A string? You will be familiar with this spot if you have already treated the thumb position in class. I prefer to see your comb in the picture.
5 Minutes before class I’ll send you an invitation by email to get into the waiting room and at 14.00 we’ll start.
To online!
Great regards,
Scarlett!
