Eigh shelves in the supermarket, no traffic jams on the A1: what’s happening in the world is huge.
It’s not crazy that I’ve been thinking about how to anticipate the coming time. Life has to keep going, we can anticipate. A few days ago it suddenly occurred to me; I’m going to offer you, my pupils, to take online celloles. Also for non-students! In the meantime the first day with 6 online cello lessons has been successful! Exhausting but successful! I did notice big differences between the programs and setups of the students so I know more.
Here I give you the best tips for cello lessons online during the Corona virus:
TIP 1
Try the program via https://zoom.us/ and if necessary create a (free) account. First Time Users will be asked to download the App on the tablet or smartphone, so don’t use www.zoom.us but use the app. For example, if I know you want to teach online I can send you an invitation in advance by email, which you could also put in your digital calendar.
Tip 2
A sturdy lectern is best to set up your tablet or phone. Prefer not to place a laptop or computer diagonally in front of you; image straight from the front shows me your strings and your elbows and hands.
I use myself on les Boston lecterns; sturdy and inexpensive. Two desks next to each other makes it even easier, if you have two…
Tip 3
Protect your tablet or phone against falling down, that sometimes takes some practice because your sheet music is also on your desk. The first thing that comes to mind, as a teacher who has this in stock, is to place two desks next to each other. One for the big tablet and one for my sheet music. But maybe the music can also be on a chair? Preferably your phone or tablet right in front of you on the lectern.
Tip 4
Position yourself close to the wifi signal, the better the quality of film and sound. Sit down for a relatively quiet background, against which I can see your arms and shoulders, for example. Backlight works very badly, try to avoid having a window or lamp behind you.
Tip 5
Please choose a relatively quiet room where you will be least disturbed. It goes without saying that your phone is on standby because, for example, you need to be reachable. No problem!
Tip 6
Settle down a pot of tea before your class starts, comfort first!
Bonustip
Maybe it’s an idea to record your cello lessons on video?
There is that possibility. So you can check it for clues, if necessary.
Well, good luck. I’d love to hear your questions!
Great regards,
Scarlett
