Happy New Year to you! The best wishes and good health for everyone! That 2020 may bring what you hope for…
On Thursday the cello’s were already unpacked in the studio; the cello lessons in Amsterdam have started again and in the evening cellist Annie Tangberg kicked off with the extra long workshop ‘Light music, accompany yourself on the cello’. We were completely full and it was super! With contemporary songs like Señorita and Skinny love and a classic, Minor Swing by Django Reinhardt Annie led both beginners and advanced through the possibilities of the different lines. Annie thank you! Fantastic that you came to the studio! I am your fan: respect…

Organizing a cello workshop is really my thing; it makes me very happy.
6 February Amsterdam | 8 February Havelte
On to Renaissance and early Baroque music, cello ensemble; for all levels. On Thursday 6 and 8 February. Music by Tallis, Dowland and di Lasso: wow what surprising harmonies and church keys… Are you in? I am looking for cellists who are not afraid to change positions here and there. Not high… Give up while you still can with this button:
5 March Cello Icons in Amsterdam
“The” Brahms e sonata and The Swan by Saint-Saens! These beautiful works will be watched in a relaxed way that evening with pianist Masha Galperina, and beautiful music will be made. There is still a place available; we will select a part of the program for you in consultation with me.
2 April Bach corals
The most beautiful workshop of last calendar year. Corals, corals, enjoying, getting into the Easter mood, but also arias like Geb mir meinem Jesum wieder and… Machet mir mein Herze rein. These spicy titles are on the program if we have the players for that.
Then a surprise on April 19th…
Do you remember that Ilse de Ziah, the Irish cellist specializing in Irish music, wanted to give a workshop day last November? Unfortunately this could not take place. I selflessly invited Ilse to use my studio, to shorten the workshop a bit but to give it again on Sunday April 19th, namely for beginning cellists and for advanced cellists. Ilse is a crack; are you participating? Of course I’m there!
For subscribers of my Celloblog € 85,00 for the workshop only or € 99,00 including workshop and enjoy the beautiful documentary Living the tradition, made by Maarten Roos, shown at the IDFA, and afterwards a small concert by Ilse.

7 May Use stairs on your cello
J guide yourself on the cello. Would you like to learn to accompany yourself on the cello, or someone else? As a kind of Singer Songwriter? Don’t you know what stairs are yet? Then you’re the target group too. For all levels!
4 June Amsterdam | 6 June Havelte: Baroque cello basic technique
Also very enlightening and helpful when you are still struggling with your classic ironing technique. This enhances your comfort and teaches you to make contact with your large muscle groups. Do you want to learn how people used to iron? I’m happy to tell you. You can buy a baroque bow from me for the real baroque feeling…
11 And July 12th: Celloweekend in Havelte with Ellis Moorman and me!
This is always full early. Be there on time. You can join in if you have already learned the big grip (and lowered first finger) on lesson.
Cello 5-daagse Zomercursus, zomercursus, Cello-Urlaub
Naturally, I’ve been working on a program for months. I depend on the registrations, the final program is tailored to you. How does ‘Start your day with Bach’ sound? It’s good, isn’t it? I’m also going to add a recurring cello bootcamp moment; a technical ‘hour’. I will also add workshop parts. How about Irish music or the Minuet region? Baroque cello stringing technique, light music with and on your cello? Every day playing together, self-study, enough time for a block of renaissance and early baroque music, a block of romantic repertoire, but also a block of contemporary repertoire by Rellini or Pärt. And relax yourself while the silencing Spiegel im Spiegel sounds?
You heard it. I have lots of ideas and plans. What I need now, who I’m looking for now, are cellists. You guys! The course is for cellists over 16 years old, all levels, but you have to be able to play the first position with a big grip and lowered first finger to be able to play with the rest.
Because this course is a PILOT, and I as organizer will be doing everything for the first time, the course costs this year not € 950,00 but € 850,00. Includes four nights in a single room and three meals plus twice coffee/tea time per day, and extra lunch and guided tour on day of arrival.
January 31st; if you register before January 31st, the course costs only € 750,00.
It is possible to pay the course fee in two parts. There are also multi-person rooms in Kloster Frenswegen; you can take your non-musician partner with you. Costs on request to me. Holiday and music in one, just a stone’s throw away from your home, and yet really abroad. There may also be non-Dutch speaking students.
This course takes place with a minimum of six students. I’m really looking forward to it; hopefully you too? Ask your cello friend and we’ll enjoy it together.

Did you have that too, that when you started playing the cello you had a piece in your head that you hoped you would play someday? With me, it was Bach's first cello suite, as with so many. But over the years I got to know more and more pieces. When I was 19 I got my...
Cello workshops 2019-2020 registration opened
I look back on the almost finished class year (because I don't stop in the summer holidays). Giving cello lessons is a party and I am so happy with all my students. They always get in the car and drive back and forth from the Almelo region to Breda. Or who come from...
Five goals for next cello year
