Bests cellists!

How are you? Is everyone playing nicely? I hope so!

The class schedule is now opened until April. Don’t plan beyond the last day of April, enthusiastic cellists, because May is not open yet. If you want continuity in your lessons plan in time and be sure of a spot.

What a lot of fun: so many comments came on my blog post about cello tailpiece-de-luxe from Frirsz, from America. I had put it on first at Addy’s and her cello, like mine, had considerably more volume, overtones, the strings felt softer! and the tailpiece showed a better balance after putting it on. The A-string of her (presumably) Laberte cello just lost some stringency and matched-te better with the rest. A check-up by the violin maker could not have done this better. I immediately reordered to meet the demand.

To my horror several BlogPost recipients appear to have emailed me by replying to the BlogPost email (reply in the mailbox). This doesn’t seem to arrive. Therefore, just to be on the safe side, I would like to mention the names of those whose response did come through and get that message as soon as the tailpiece is in; Hetty, Jos, Karin, Sophie, Ellen H., Edith (requested as a birthday present for you, how sweet!), Carl, am I forgetting someone? Don’t you see your name in here? Did you contact me? Please write me again at info@celloverkoop.nl.

You know: not good, money back. Frirsz is happy when you are happy. And the same counts for me. Are you seriously investing in your cello game? Do you have a beautiful cello and do you want to know what the extremes are in it? Consider the tailpiece a € 308,00, expensive but not too expensive!

Here a nice tip from Pascal; a quiz method, German, to get to know the notes via cards. Solid, Grundlig; Deutsch! Looking at Pascal, it’s absolutely fun! GO!

The cello Back to basics January is on it. Both were full of subscribers from Belgium, impressive! I got such wonderful reactions to this; I will take them with me when I announce the next Back to basics. One of the participants, Helen, told me about software that allows you to play a music file from your computer slower without changing the pitch. I found this a super tip to play along with a piece;

… It is called “The Amazing SlowDowner” and can be found at www.ronimusic.com. Available for Mac and Windows (which is also important). As long as the music file is on your computer, it can play it. …

Thank you very much!

The next activity is playing together; relaxed yet two hours of intensive music reading, tuning, enjoying and kneading music. For in Havelte on Saturday 2 March from 14.00 to 16.00/16.15 I am still looking for cellists. Here all levels can join in. I would even be happy to adjust the pieces to be played if desired.

Do you want to join us in Havelte on March 2nd? Mail me! As a member you can find the music under the forum or I will mail it to you. Do you want to become a member? See the www.celloverkoop.nl/members page. Below is a screenshot of what the bar looks like to apply for that membership. I am sorry I can’t subscribe you on request.

What fun; already six subscriptions for the next activity! So this one will continue. Are you participating as well? Subscribe by clicking here. Accompanied on the cello. Because like Lotte suggested, he came to Havelte for an afternoon; I’d like to play along with my band but what should I do? So we’re going to recognize steps by tracing them on your ear (if you don’t know what ‘stairs’ are then you’re the target group!). Did you know that there are usually only three stages in pop songs and children’s songs, i.e. I, IV and V? Followed by the VI stage as the fourth most used stage?

Then we go songs ranging from Always is Shorty… because everybody knows that, up to a Beatles song or a song you’ve chosen analyze and accompany with not only the keynote of that staircase, we’re also going to see what we can do with the chord on that keynote. That immediately makes a bass line or accompanying line much more fun! Maybe after that we can look at the running bass?

For those who dare; we are going to look at the melody line of a pop song and play it in a poppy way. because don’t you notice that when you play from a Beatles book or something and you do exactly what it says, it sounds like your grandmother is singing it? (My grandmother sang like that.)

I’d like to make a Friday night off for it, from 18.30 to 20.30 now that I know there are more subscribers. I myself was thinking of Friday evening April 5th or Friday evening April 12th. Is there anyone who wants to develop this? I’ll help you with the first steps or the second. As a cellist and pianist I’m handy with kicks, accompaniment, second voices; I want to help you! Mail me if this appeals to you and say which Friday you could, okay?

Talk about activities; the Cellowekend!

As you know, another cello weekend is planned on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 August in Havelte. Ellis and I are your teachers and we are already looking for beautiful music. Maximum 24 registrations, divided into three groups. This way you can hear yourself well, Ellis and I can hear you well, and we can put levels together a bit; beginners with beginners and so on. Of course there is a tutti piece in which we come to a whore mood. If you feel like playing together, slide on!

For the level; because of the three groups we create, anyone can participate in this celloweekend. It works best if you master the big grip because that increases the number of keys we can work in. If you start with your teacher in January, he will be fine this summer. The Celloweekend lasts from Saturday 17 August 10.30 to about 17.30, after which there is dinner. On Sunday we think about 10.00 to 16.30 and then have a nice chat.

Do you want to subscribe?

For BlogPost readers who received this post in the mailbox costs participation € 180.00, for non BlogPost readers participation costs € 199.00. This includes two lunches and a dinner and of course coffee, tea and refreshments in between.

Tip: take your partner or family with you: they can walk here, and stay in the new fine hotel restaurant Ludiek in Havelte. Of course there are a lot of B&B’s in the neighborhood, it is also nice to stay outside Havelte so you can see some of the region from A to B :-). It is high season so be there on time. Tips will follow in a later blogpost.

The lesson location of the Celloweekend; our farm in Havelte, Drenthe, just past Meppel.

Member news

.

Thank you for signing up as Members via www.celloverkoop.nl/members page. Coming time I’m going to put some stuff I found on the Member page while cleaning up. Through a Post I will for example give away some voting devices, and some lightweight lecterns. These are items I don’t want to sell because I don’t fully support them. But they are getting dusty and I’m too sorry to leave them unused. Only condition is that you can pick them up because I don’t make a parcel of them.

As a Member you can publish and comment on the Forum. You can follow each other if you like. And respond to the BlogPosts. Ruben saw your name appear in a forum post? It was your ring, your tool.

And under the Forum I’m going to upload sheet music. For example for the Samenspeelavond in Amsterdam on February 28th or Samenspeel afternoon in Havelte on Saturday March 2nd. Do you want to participate? Do you dare? See the sheet music on your forum page, only visible for Members. Submit for the samenspeelavond or afternoon? Mail me!

Videos and music: Have fun!

A cello piece par excellence, but then: which piece isn’t? Unfortunately I could not find the sheet music. You?

The beautiful Cavatina from The Deer Hunter of Myers; sigh… Let’s play this piece with our quartet; I’ll add the pdf under the Forum in the Members area, unfortunately that’s not possible here…

An orchestral part which is requested almost every audition for a cello place and which is beautiful; the cello solo from Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony, part two. Enjoy! Here is the link to the sheet music.

Here you see what the tutti result is:

OMG; this is Amazing. Check it out. And let’s face it; all these kids are already making fantastic music; many an adult amateur orchestra can’t compete with this; Elgarrrr! Here the music; does this click-through?

Cello fun!!

Hahaha; this guy has made a lot more movies about annoying things among violinists, he plays the violin. Here he is again predictably irritating.

O this is surprising! I searched on Youtube on Cello Fun and I see my Spiccato movie. Nice! And yes; spiccato is fun and anyone can do it if he follows the instructions. Are there any techniques you want to treat?

Let me know!

In conclusion: my eye fell on this beautiful caprice of Franchomme, with second cello ad libitum. When I heard him play Ellis (the other teacher during the Celloweekend) at her final exams, I already thought, I’ll do final exams with this Caprice one day. And that’s how it went. By the way, the collection is also with me in the studio for lovers.

A webpage with cello ensemble music which I had never seen before; I want to share it. The prices seem reasonable to me and you can listen and have a look; what more could you want. Do you want to play together but don’t have an ensemble yet? During a workshop evening or afternoon you often meet new cellists.

Sheet music recommended for the month

.

What a good idea to put the new incoming sheet music on a lectern at the door. New music inspires and so you see; you browse and take away; top! I also try to remember your musical preferences for possible pairing of duos and so.

The recommendation of the month is Christopher, Bunting, Portfolio or Cello exercises. A bundle full of useful exercises for cellists at every level. We can go through them at class; every class one because the stricter you practice the better.

The book costs € 18.00 and there are three ready in Amsterdam.

So far the news now. See you soon at class or during a workshop!

Friendly greeting,

Scarlett Arts
