I look back on the almost finished class year (because I don’t stop in the summer holidays). Giving cello lessons is a party and I am so happy with all my students. They always get in the car and drive back and forth from the Almelo region to Breda. Or who come from all parts of the city by bike in all kinds of weather; hat off. I think the greatest compliment possible is that you feel the enthusiasm and come to me for inspiration and improvement.

The workshops also make me very happy. I remember the goosebumps when Eli started singing the song ‘Gebt mir meinem Jesum wieder’ during the Passion Time chorale workshop. How beautiful it was… And how everyone came loose and felt comfortable while improvising / exploring the stairs in the workshop Accompany yourself with the cello. How they sang spontaneously again and answers came to cello technical questions like: How do you play chords on the cello? There are several ways.

Workshops make me happy too. Especially when you are satisfied and leave with new insights. Next year my workshop frequency will go up. The prices of the workshops are linked to the fairy’s for the musicians who give the workshops.

I want to highlight these three workshops; they are unique and I am looking forward to it!

Workshop 1
De Basso Continu Workshop’ 14 september 2019

The Basso continuo workshop on 14 September for all instruments. For this I rented the large studio on the Archangelkade where harpsichordist and baroque specialist Jan van Grootheest will unpack his harpsichord. In cello and mixed ensembles we will take a look behind the scenes of famous masters like Bach, Vivaldi but also Mozart and Schubert. Do you want to join us? Form an ensemble with your family, music friends, orchestra members! Only for this occasion; why not? We tune the material to be treated to the formations.

Workshop 2
Christmas ensemble’ 14 December 2019

A new day of playing together, which hopefully will become a tradition, is the Cello Christmas Extreme in Havelte, at our home after the last day of class; on December 14th.
By having with as many cellists as possible in multiple groups a house full of Christmas music in combination with good food and Christmas coziness, I hope to be totally Christmas on time, and to give you this feeling as well. We end our ensemble playing in total darkness, with an ever shrinking ensemble. Silence, the deep winter night… Be there!

Workshop 3
Playing light music with your cello’ 2 January 2020

On 2 January Annie Tangberg, leader of the cello group of the Metropole Orkest, will give the workshop ‘Light music and improvisation with your cello’. Annie is really great, a huge pro, and this workshop is open to cellists of all levels. Many cellists like to play light music. Think of The Piano Guys: they are very popular. It looks so easy but what do you do as a cellist when you play light music? Play in a band. How do you do that? You’ll often play a bass line but then your moment to ‘shine’ comes, what do you do? How do you make your own line? There are only nine places. She doesn’t do this anywhere else with amateurs. Are you there? Be quick!
